An Analytical Study of the Climate of Investment in Algeria

Abstract
Analysing the climate of investment, these days, is a major preoccupation of a country like Algeria, particularly at a moment when this country is in a state of transition under the multiple effects of numerous transformations and mutations it has undergone in recent years.
In this study, we have tried to analyze the climate of investment in Algeria. We, first of all, deal with the main factors which influence the decisions taken by national and foreign investors (macro-economic stability, a legal context that is suitable for private investment, the quality of institutions etc...).
For a better evaluation of the climate of investment in Algeria, we have relied primarily on the analysis of the quantitative indices like the GDP growth rate, the inflation rate, the exchange reserves level, the foreign debt level, and the quality of communication and transport infrastructures.
Considering the importance of the factors related to the quality of the institutions, we have, then, devoted an important part of our study to the analysis of these factors which enable us to know the comparative situation of Algeria regarding the climate of investment. In the last part of this study we deal with the following question: which are the factors or obstacles which have limited, up till now, the appeal of Algeria to investors? Highlighting these factors and obstacles, which have negatively affected the climate of investment in Algeria, inevitably results in asking questions as to what measures may be taken in the future in order to remedy to this problem.
Finally, we conclude our study by suggesting a number of measures and policies that are likely to improve the climate of investment in Algeria.
